Catherine Evans writes rural fiction. She grew up in Sydney but desperately needed to move to the country. After eighteen years in agricultural research, Cath has a passion for rural life.When life encouraged a career change, her love of creative writing came out of the closet.
Catherine writes in two sub-genres of romance. She writes rural fiction because that is what she knows and loves, but there’s a secret side too. She has a naughty alter-ego, Cate Ellink, who writes about sex and explores the shadow side of life that society often frowns on. Catherine now lives on the south coast of NSW, but part of her heart still belongs across the mountain ranges in the red soils of the flat plains.
Catherine holds a B. App. Sc., M. App. Sc., and Cert IV Workplace Training and Assessment. While living in Condobolin, she participated in many events for farmers including workshops, field days and talks. She wrote for newspaper articles, handouts and newsletters for farmers, and compiled and edited the Central West Farming Systems group’s Annual Research Compendium for a few years. She also wrote scientific papers for journals and presented at scientific conferences.
Catherine taught classes for Condobolin Adult Education, mostly computer-related, and also ran classes from the Condobolin Community Technology Centre, which included computer classes for the Lachlan Shire Council staff.
In 2008, Catherine joined the Romance Writers of Australia where she became involved in proofreading the monthly newsletter, Hearts Talk. Over the years she became more involved in the newsletter and with RWA. She was the Hearts Talk editor from 2012-2015, managed a writing contest from 2009-2011, assisted on the conference team in 2011, and has been a judge for RWA’s writing contests since 2009.
She has given author talks in local libraries, spoken at and been on a panel at the Wollongong Writers Festival, and presented workshops for the South Coast Writers Centre and Shellharbour Library.
Cate’s book, Team Player, won the 2017 Favourite Erotic Romance in the Australian Romance Readers Association Awards. Her earlier novel, Deep Diving, had been a finalist for the same award in 2014.

I was a child of the ’80s and grew up with a firm understanding of rules and boundaries and what those restrictions meant to my life. Breaking the rules had consequences I’d rather avoid. I didn’t want my mouth rinsed out with soap, so I didn’t use curse words. I didn’t want to see the hard end of a wooden spoon, so I didn’t chat back to my mother. And I definitely didn’t want to miss out on dessert, so I ate what was put in front of me at dinner time … most of the time. Swallowing and choking on brussels sprouts just wasn’t worth the sweet stuff. Sorry, ma.
Mindfulness: As Sexy as Meditation

I’ve known about mindfulness and I thought I did okay at it. I live in the present moment and I try to enjoy things with a child-like glee—or so I thought. Then I heard and saw someone who excelled at it … and it blew my mind.
Energy. I learned about it in science. It’s forever linked to E = mc2 and Einstein, for me. I played sport, so energy is also equal to exercise and doing things. And I also associate energy with people – she’s a high energy person, he’s a low energy guy, she takes my energy – yet I haven’t really understood what that meant.
